What is the objective of the FAPESP Interdisciplinary School?
The School aims to provide postdoctoral fellows the opportunity to:
- Learn about research conducted by scientific leaders from Brazil and abroad across multiple areas of knowledge;
- Understand academic trajectories to see how research lines were established and the main challenges in each field;
- Present their work in short oral pitches and poster sessions for discussion with experts;
- Establish lasting professional connections with national and international researchers.

Who can participate in the FAPESP Interdisciplinary School 2025?
Postdoctoral fellows funded by Brazilian funding agencies working in the areas of Humanities, Social Sciences and Arts are eligible.
I am a PhD student. Can I participate as a guest?
No. The School is exclusively for postdoctoral researchers selected by random selection. PhD students are not eligible, even as guests.
Can I participate as an observer?
No. The event does not offer participation in the observer modality.
When and where will the School take place?
The event will be held from December 1 to 5, 2025, at the Instituto Principia, SΓ£o Paulo, Brazil - Rua Pamplona, 145 - Cerqueira CΓ©sar, SΓ£o Paulo - SP, 01405-900

How were the invited speakers selected?
Speakers were selected by a dedicated organizing committee. They will present talks on their most significant research results and interact informally with participants.
What language will be used during the School?
The official language of the School is English. No simultaneous translation will be provided.
Will there be a WhatsApp group for participants?
No. All communication will be via email.
Is proof of four-dose COVID-19 vaccination required?
No. Current health protocols do not require it.
Is there a guided cultural visit as part of the program?
Yes. Participants will enjoy a guided visit to the Museu Paulista, an important historical and cultural institution in SΓ£o Paulo. This visit fosters networking and interdisciplinary dialogue in an inspiring environment.
Will there be any networking or social events?
Yes. The School includes receptions, lunches, dinners, and coffee breaks designed to encourage networking and collaboration among participants.
How long is each conference or talk?
Conferences are typically one hour, followed by debate sessions and informal discussions. Short oral βpitch presentationsβ by postdoctoral participants last 5 minutes each.
Are all conferences and workshops conducted in English?
Yes. The official language of all presentations, discussions, and workshops is English.
Will I have the opportunity to interact with speakers and other participants?
Yes. The program includes multiple opportunities for informal discussions, poster sessions, debates, coffee breaks, and guided group activities.
What time is the Opening Session at Instituto Principia?
At 18h, on Monday.
How can I apply for the School?
Applications must be submitted via the electronic form available on the platform during the registration period: September 1 to October 15*, 2025.

How many participants will be selected?
A total of 60 postdoctoral fellows will be selected, alongside 8 invited speakers.
How will participants be selected?
The 60 postdoctoral participants will be selected by random draw using a computerized system, considering gender, racial balance, home location, and affiliation with FAPESP or other funding agencies. An equitable distribution among FAPESP and non-FAPESP fellows, as well as between SΓ£o Paulo residents and participants from other regions, will be sought.
What costs will FAPESP cover for selected participants?
FAPESP will cover transportation from the participantβs home institution to the event, the return journey exclusively to their home institution, double-occupancy accommodation, and meals during the School. Participants are responsible for health insurance and other personal expenses. Transfers between the airport/bus terminal in the city of SΓ£o Paulo and the hotel will be reimbursed. Transfers between the participantβs residence and the airport/bus terminal in their home city will be at the participantβs expense and will not be reimbursed.
I am currently doing my postdoc abroad. Can I apply?
FAPESP does not fund international travel for this event. If you are back in Brazil during the School and have a valid fellowship, you may apply.
I do not have a fellowship due to employment at my university. Can I participate?
No. The School is designed for postdoctoral fellows with active funding from research agencies.
Will there be a waiting list for applicants not selected initially?
Yes. Slots will be filled dynamically according to the selection process and confirmation of interest. If you have not received a notification, you have not been selected at this stage.
Will FAPESP cover international travel costs?
No, international travel is not covered.
Is poster presentation mandatory even if my research is at an early stage?
Yes. Poster presentation is required, even for early-stage research.

Is there a specific poster layout?
Use a standard A0 poster. The style is flexible; choose the best way to communicate your results.

Should the oral presentation of the poster be in English?
Yes, all oral poster presentations must be in English.
Do I need to bring my poster already printed?
Yes. Printing facilities will not be available on-site. Do not forget to bring it with a cord to hanging up.
How should the abstract be prepared?
Abstracts must be in English, including title, authors, and institutions. One page (A4) is recommended. Figures and illustrations may be included.
Will the abstract be available for download on the site?
Yes, after the School concludes.
Can I present preliminary results in my poster?
Yes. Posters can reflect ongoing research; the focus is on effective communication of your work, regardless of stage.
Is there a recommended format for poster sessions?
Posters should follow the A0 standard format, and can include figures, diagrams, or other visual elements to effectively communicate your research.

Will there be recognition for poster presentations?
Yes. Certificates will include the School name, poster title, and authors.

Yes. Certificates will include the School name, poster title, and authors. Electronic certificates will be sent by email after the event.
How is transportation reimbursement handled?
Participants purchase national flights, and FAPESP reimburses after the event via bank transfer, upon submission of tickets (E-ticket or receipt) and boarding passes. Tickets must be economy class. Bus tickets are reimbursed similarly. Travel from home to airports or terminals is not covered. Only one checked bag will be paid for, and seat selection will not be reimbursed. The reimbursement of airline tickets exceeding R$4,000.00 is subject to prior authorization by the organizing committee.

Yes, all the participants must stay at the same hotel for better integration.
Will the FAPESP grant cover all accommodation costs?
Yes. FAPESP covers accommodation and meals. Extra personal expenses, such as alcohol or hotel services, are the participantβs responsibility.
